Press Coverage

Worden in the newspapers, 1934-45

Until World War II, newspapers printed accounts of even trivial naval events such as ship sponsorships, minor accidents, officer promotion lists and maneuvers. Some of these accounts were extraordinarily detailed, and others were so vague as to be useless.

Wartime security put a stop to most such routine articles in the late 1930s.
